A 2D scan gives flat, cross-sectional black-and-white images used for standard diagnosis. A 3D scan builds a still, sculpted image of the surface from those slices. A 4D scan is a 3D image that updates in real time, so you see live movement — like a baby's expressions during a pregnancy scan.
Yes. Ultrasound uses sound waves, not radiation, and is considered safe at every stage of pregnancy when performed by a trained sonologist for a genuine clinical or diagnostic reason.
Preparation depends on the scan. A whole abdomen scan usually needs about 6 hours of fasting, a pelvis or early pregnancy scan needs a full bladder, and most other scans need no preparation at all. You will get exact instructions when you book.
Most reports are ready the same day, reviewed and signed by the sonologist before you leave. Complex cases needing a second opinion may take slightly longer, and you will be informed at the time of the scan.
The NT scan, done around 11-13 weeks, checks early markers related to the baby's development. The anomaly or TIFFA scan, done around 18-22 weeks, is a detailed structural check of the baby's organs and growth. Both are routine, recommended parts of antenatal care.
Yes, subject to a valid clinical scan being on record. 3D/4D imaging works best between roughly 26-30 weeks, when there's enough space around the baby's face for a clear picture. Family members are welcome to be present for this scan.
